War Dog Memorial Celebration

Originally this program was instituted to honor the memories of military canines who served our country during wartime. In recent years, however, the focus has been expanded to include all pets who have been of service to humanity such as dogs who are trained to assist police and fire dogs.

Past ceremonies have featured dogs from the U.S. Homeland Security, U.S. Army K-9 Corps, New York City Police Department, Metro-North Railroad Police Department, Greenville Fire Department, Guiding Eyes For The Blind, The Good Dog Foundation, Canine Companions, and Puppies Behind Bars.

Domestic canines who have exhibited acts of extraordinary heroism have also been cited. The event has included the participation of area Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops as well as American Legion members from the city of New Rochelle, NY.

A pet adoption day is also conducted by the Shelter Pet Alliance.
