Details
Hit the trail at 10:00 and picnic at 11:00ish. Weather permitting.
DIRECTIONS: Enter the park at Jones-Maltsberger @ Money Tree. The intersection at Money Tree is about halfway between Starcrest and Thousand Oaks.
Follow the main road (money tree) as it curves around until you come to a stop sign at a 'T' intersection. Make a right. (you'll see a small sign with green lettering that points to the dog park to the left here)
Follow this road around until you come to another stop sign. There is a pavilion on the corner here and the street name is Leaping Fawn - Turn Left here. Follow Leaping Fawn until you see a 'One Way' sign that points to the right- pass this one and take the next turn to the left, there will be a sign there that says 'One Way' and points to the Left. There should be a green metal gate directly in front of you before you make this turn. It was closed when I was there today (Wednesday.)
I will have my white sign with meetup on it so you know who I am- this is a little dirt road that is a little off of the main street, nicely shaded, several picnic tables and garbage cans and easy access to the trails.
Also- watch out for DEER! When I went to check it out today there were deer everywhere! I almost hit two of them, and they are not afraid of cars in the least!
Please bring your own lunches- we may do a pot luck style picnic in the future, but as we're so new I think it would be easiest for everyone to bring their own. You may want to bring it in a small cooler to keep in the car until we're done with our hike. You may be able to hitch your dog to a tree or picnic table while you eat- I may throw a crate in the back of my car for my kiddos.
Once we're done walking and getting our lunches together I'd like to discuss a few things with the group. I would like to see if we can get a fundraiser together and sponsor a homeless dog at the Animal Defense League, so bring your thinking caps and let's come up with some good fundraiser ideas!
As always, the same rules apply- please use regular leashes- no retractibles (flexi leashes) for the safety of the other hikers and their dogs.
Be respectful of other hikers whether with our group or not, and of the park- keep your dog on leash as required by the park and pick up after any accidents.
Dress appropriately for the weather and wear appropriate shoes. Tennis shoes or hiking boots will be your best bet.
Bring plenty of water- I don't think McAllister park has water fountains like Comanche did.
Have fun!!!
Please feel free to email me or call me at 210 332 9043 if you have any questions.

"The weather for this event satrted off a little cool, but was perfect by the time we finished our second trail. Next time I think I'll take my dogs to the Dog Park located at McAllister to let them unwind a bit before the event"
