Windy City is having a get together for all dogs of all shapes and sizes! Best part? It's free!! Looking for something to do on a Sunday morning with your favorite pooch? Come on over! Bring your friends! We'll be taking over the large playroom at Best Friends Windy City. All you need is yourself and your best four legged friend. All in attendance (two and four legged :) need to be reasonably socialized and be current on vaccinations. Since you'll be here anyway, take care of that spring cleaning if your pooch is a little on the smelly side. Our self groom salon will be available as well for the normal $15 charge! Change of plans? Please keep your RSVP up to date so we can keep an accurate count of how many paws to expect. UPDATE!!!! Notice the date change - It's now May 17th. We have the room until 3! Is your pooch model material? Come and find out! We are looking for dogs of all shapes, sizes, and ages for a brand new book! Best Friends is working with a wonderful professional photographer, Barbara Karant (Greyhouds: The Book), who is creating a new photography book to be titled Big Dog Small Dog that will be published Spring 2010. She is currently searching for dogs of all breeds, sizes, and ages to participate in photo sessions for her new book.

Join Us for our "Agility for Dummies" Meet-Up Group this August 19th from 10am-12pm!! Stacey Hawk of Hawk City K9 will be hosting an intro to agility session, presenting agility demonstrations, intro to obstacles session, and of course, a playgroup finale! What is agility you ask? Well, according to Stacey, "it's the most fun you and your dog can have together!" Owners and their dogs learn how to work as a team to complete timed obstacle courses. During agility you have the chance to learn a wide range of obstacle skills in a fun, safe, environment! Any healthy dog, regardless of breed, size, sex and age can benefit and succeed in agility. Dogs enjoy this positive, stimulating outlet for all their excess energy while building their confidence! Who is Stacey Hawk? Stacey has been voted Chicagoland Tails Readers' Choice Award for "Best Agility Instructor." She uses positive, motivational, reward based training methods in all of her Agility and Obedience Training. She is a Professional Member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and is an Agility & Obedience Trainer at Best Friends Windy City, as well as their In-House "Board & Train" and "Daycare Training" Director. Stacey is the Co-Founder/Chair of Wiggley Field, she is on the Dog Park Advisory Committee, and is the Co-Founder/Co-Chair of D.A.W.G (The Dog Advisory Work Group). Stacey Hawk is a well known name in the dog training community and has been the recipient of numerous Community and Governmental Recognition & Appreciation awards for all the work she has done for dog-related issues. Bring your favorite pooch for a fun filled & free, lightly luau themed, and all around good time, doggie playgroup! Come Join Us....... For an interesting and fun Q&A session at Best Friends Windy City on Sunday, June 24th from 2pm-4pm. Janice Triptow, a Best Friends Dog Trainer and Owner of Dog Behavior Solutions, Inc., will be here to answer all your Dog Behavior questions. After the Q&A session feel free to stay and let your dogs play in our large indoor play room! The meet-up happens rain or shine! Treats will be provided for you and your four-legged friend! Janice is a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant providing services for behavior modification for issues such as aggression, anxiety and fear, to name a few. Janice is a Certified Dog Trainer and an AKC certified Canine Good Citizen Evaluator, as well as a professional member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and a field instructor for Paws with a cause, a service dog agency. She isb also very active with the Anti-Cruelty Society and other rescue groups performing behavior screenings as well as individual modification work. Janice has been teaching training classes for over 9 years and is a senior instructor at ACS as well as Best Friends Windy City Pet Care. She conducts classes for dog-dog reactivity, basic obedience classes for all levels, Rally obedience, Agility, Canine Good Citizen preparation and training as well as many others. Janice has held several free seminars at ACS and we are so lucky to have her bring her expertise to our meet-up group to answer all your burning dog behavior questions....and you know you have them!!
